Juventus got their 27th victory of the season by defeating Livorno 2-0 on goals from Fernando Llorente coming in the 32nd and 35th minutes.
It was an easy win for the Bianconeri after a tough loss last round in Napoli.
The win brings Juves’ lead on top of the standings to 8 points. Livorno in contrast fell to last place in the standings and are inching closer to demotion. Even though they lost, it was not a poor display from Livorno by any stretch.
They faced a better opponent and gave it their best. The problem Livorno has is that they lack creativity moving forward, and it stagnates anything they do coming up from the defensive end. Livorno has some good players, in particular Innocent Emeghara who was giving Juventus fits at different point during the match.
Hopefully Livorno’s next match will be a more positive result.
Title chasers AS Roma moved closer to catching Juventus with two wins during the week. They recorded a 4-2 win over Parma in a midweek makeup game on goals from Gervinho in the 12th minute, Francesco Totti in the 16th minute, Miralem Pjanic in the 49th minute and Rodriguo Taddei in the 82nd minute.
The reply from the Parmiggiani came from Afriyie Acquah in the 15th minute and Jonathan Biabiany in the 90th minute.
In their regularly scheduled game Roma defeated Cagliari 3-1 in Sardegna on 3 goals from Mattia Destro. Cagliari’s goal came from Mauricio Ricardo Pinilla in the 89th minute on a penalty shot. Roma made up some ground on Juventus and are on a high right now. It looks promising for a great finish at the top of the Serie A standings by the Italian Giants.
Napoli lost a chance to keep pace with Roma by going down 1-0 to Parma. The Italian U21 international Marco Parolo scored the goal for hosts in the 55th minute.
After an emotional win against Juventus last week, the Patenopei were brought down to Earth by a resilient Parma team.
Although Napoli dominated the play, they seemed unwilling to shoot and it cost them in the end. Parma did not play much better and a draw would have been a more deserving result for both sides.
In Genoa, AC Milan got their second win in a row and it was their third game without a loss by edging Genoa 2-1.
The goals for the Rossoneri came from the Moroccan international Adel Taarabt in the 20th minute and the Japanese international Honda Keisuke in the 56th minute.
The reply for the hosts came from the ex Juventino Marco Motta.
Genoa dominated the game and deserved a least a draw. Greek international Giannis Fetfatzidis played a fantastic game as did Motta, but the man of the match was AC Milans’ keeper Christian Abbiati. He made some fantastic saves to preserve the win and he is one of the most underrated keepers in the world. In my book only Buffon is better than Abbiati.
This was an important 3 points for the Rossoneri towards their quest for Europe.
In other results:
Fiorentina won 2-1 at home against Udinese. It was a good game for the Viola and the result will help them cement 4th place and a spot in the Europa league.
Inter Milan drew 2-2 with Bologna at home. It was their 3rd straight draw and they have gone 4 games without a win. Inter are stagnant right now and they must improve to have any chance to play in the Europa League.
Lazio stayed in the hunt for a spot in Europe by defeating Sampadoria 2-0 in Rome Atalanta lost their 1st game in 8 outings to Sassuolo 2-0 in Bergamo.
It was an important win for Sassuolo who are fighting for their life in Serie A Torino kept their dreams alive for Europe by defeating Catania 2-1 in Sicily. And finally in the Verona derby Hellas Verona defeated Chievo Verona 1-0.
The relegation battle got even tighter this week with five teams in trouble: Sassuolo, Catania, Livorno, Bologna and Chievo Verona. The relegation battle will likely go down to the last game of the season.
Here you have it, another week in Serie A recap. Stay tuned for more interesting news from the most exciting league in the world.
